Monitoring usage allows you to check the status of your allocation by displaying the used and remaining portions of your allocation.

Checking Usage from the TeraGrid User Portal

To see your overall usage, log in to the User Portal and go to My TeraGrid >> Allocations/Usage. Details about your allocation, number of SUs awarded, usage, and percentage of time remaining are displayed.

tgusage

You can monitor usage of your TeraGrid allocation from the command line with the tgusage command line tool. The current version of tgusage, v. 3.0, allows the user to see the following information:

  • Your own usage
  • The usage of others on your project
  • A list of all resources available on the TeraGrid
  • Usage within a range of dates

Availability

tgusage is available from most TeraGrid resources. To see the current list of TeraGrid resources where tgusage is currently installed, go to the CTSS Catalog >> Find CTSS Resources by Software/Services, and select tgusage from the options. The results will show a full list of resources with version and softenv key information.

Usage of tgusage

/usr/local/bin/tgusage [options]

    [OPTIONS]
     -a --account <account name>
     -u --user --username <user name>
     -r --resource <resource name>
     -j --username=<username> --account=<account name> --begindate=<mm-dd-yyyy> --enddate=<mm-dd-yyyy>
     -v --version
     -h --help

No arguments or -help switch displays all resources.

tgprojects (UC/ANL)

At UC/ANL, users can list their projects from the command line using the tgprojects command:

<your_username>@tg-login2:~> tgprojects

Running the tgprojects command displays a listing of your current projects. Your default project is not set automatically. Use the command tgprojects -s <project-id> to set your default project. Specifying 'None' as the project-id will unset the default.

If a project is explicitly specified when you submit a job, that project will be charged for the the usage, whether or not you have a default project set. If no project is specified when the job is submitted, and there is only one project associated with your account, that project is charged for the usage. Otherwise the default project is checked. If set, that project is charged for the usage.

WARNING: If you have multiple projects and have not explicitly specified a project or set a default project, the job submission will fail.
